San Andreas
Homes for Sale in San Andreas
San Andreas is the county seat of Calaveras County and offers easy access to the rest of the Sierra mountains by its placement on highway 49, a main artery through gold country. Many think the town is home to the San Andreas earthquake fault but that couldn't be further from the truth. The town is seismically irrelevant by the USGS and was actually named after San Andrés, the patron saint of Spain. Mexicans first discovered gold here, and by the early 1850s between 1,000 and 1,500 miners were working in the area.
Today, San Andreas retains its historical charm, with some well-preserved buildings from the Gold Rush era. The town's history is commemorated through local museums, historic sites, and events that celebrate its role in the California Gold Rush.
The types of real estate in San Andreas consists of older vintage homes in the downtown area, with homes on gradually larger lots as you head the outskirts of town in all directions.
